I could start with "Maria Bastasin started martial arts..." but let’s get real. Here’s how martial arts changed my life and why I’m passionate about it. Twelve years ago, I stepped into a Thai boxing gym to shake up my routine. I quickly fell in love with the discipline and intensity, training six days a week, twice a day. Soon, I hungered to fight in the ring, and once I did, I knew it was true love. The thrill of pushing my limits and facing the ultimate challenge when the bell rang was my moment of truth. Martial arts has shaped me into who I am today. Along the way, I met incredible people, especially my mentor, Kru Alin Halmagean. His unwavering belief in me brought out the best in me. This journey wasn’t just about fighting. It was about dedication to a dream, proving to myself that I could be the best Maria, facing fears, and inspiring others. The grueling 5 AM runs, cutting weight, and working through injuries were all worth it. Martial arts taught me determination, resilience, and hard work. I've learned to never underestimate the underdog and to always find a way when there's a will. Success requires effort, and I realized I wasn’t just a girl in a man's sport—I was a person with passion and a dream. Thai boxing kept me on a straight path. I’ve bled, broken bones, and sacrificed years for this sport, and I wouldn’t change a thing. Martial arts isn’t just for fighters; it’s a way of life and self-discovery. This sport will challenge you to your core, but I promise, it's worth it.
